During the last session of the term of the Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club ‘Learn to Swim’ school no fewer than 38 of the clubs youngest swimmers were awarded their certificates and badges for achieving distances in the pool.

  • Ryan Chappell gained his 5m badge.
  • Eli May Bennett, Megan Evans, Millie Hazel, Rosie Hunt, Sophie Jaggar, Alex Keith, Alfie Roberts and Ben Thompson all achieved their 10m badge.
  • Sam Burford, Mollie Jaggar and Syd Read swam 15m for their new certificates.
  • Martha Butchart, Toby Chapman, Jamie Charlotte, Harry Cook, Summer Farrington, Ben Fitzsimmons, Bella Lewington, Lauren Marett, Noah Pastore, Zoe Quarman, Sean Tuffnell, Ethan Wallace and James Thomas all achieved 25m distance.
  • Ryan Hawkins, Ben Herbert, Callum Palmer-Moodey and Any Spencer swam 50m for their badges.
  • Libby Bridgen, Charlie Cook, Lauren Feander, Emily Holden, Coco Loanworth, and Emily Probst all gained their 100m badges and certificates.
  • Abigail Casterton, Amber Demaine and Ceris Wears all managed to swim a fantastic 8 lengths of the 25m pool to achieve their 200m badges and certificates.

The Summer Term commences on the 28th of April when the Tiddenfoot Pool re-opens following refurbishment works that take place over Easter.

At the half way stage of the Bedfordshire County Swimming Championships, Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club’s swimmers have been getting some great results! In the age group tables, Michael Judd is First in the boys 13 years whilst Jack Wears is currently 2nd in the boys 12 years group.

LBSC are 6th in Medal Table with 5 Gold, 12 Silver and 7 Bronze.  The medal winners so far are:
Lucy Gregory – bronze in 800m Freestyle, Bronze in 100m IM, Silver in 50m butterfly,
Rebecca Casterton – bronze in 100m Freestyle, Silver in 200m IM
Lauren Grice – Gold in 200m butterfly,
Bethany Twitchell – Bronze in 200m IM, Gold in 50m breaststroke,
Jack Wears -  Silver in 100m Freestyle, Silver in 200 backstroke, Bronze in 200m IM, Gold in 200m freestyle, bronze in 50m butterfly,
Michael Judd – Silver in 100m Freestyle, Silver in 200m IM, Gold in 200m butterfly, Silver in 200m freestyle, Gold in 50m butterfly,
Leoné Crick – Silver in 200m butterfly, Silver in 50m Breaststroke,
Louis Bell – Silver in 200m freestyle,
Harry Wears – Silver in 50m butterfly,

The relay teams have also produced two medals, a silver from Leoné Crick, Michael Judd, Harry Wears and Sam Twitchell  in the 4×50 Medley and a bronze for Maisey Rose, Bethany Twitchell, Lauren Wright and Amy Edwins in their 4×50 Medley.

The final weekend is coming up with plenty more medals to be won!

 

George Thomas 5m

Sam Burdford, Martha Butchart, Harry Cook, Jocelyn Kiteley, Noah Pastore, Syd Read, Sean Tufnell and Ethan Wallace all achieved 10m

James Thomas and Hollie Welford swam 15m.

Dylan Everard, Amy George, Callum Goodyear, Jessica Harvey, Ryan Hawkins, Ben Herbert, Callum Palmer-Moodey, Amy Spencer and Daisy Sinclair all swam for their 25m badges.

Joel Blades, Charlie Cook, Isabelle Couling, Bradley Farrington, Kelsey Farrington, Lauren Feander, Emily Holden, Coco Longworth, Jessica Parker-Naples and Emily Probst and Hamish Robinson all achieved two lengths / 50m in the main pool.

Abigail Casterton, Lauren Chappell, Amber Demaine, Sam George, Charlie Paron, Ceris Wears and Leah West gained their 100m badges.

George DeVoogt, Callum Gould, Rachel Herbert, Natasha Howles, Joseph Hull, Liam McKean, Zoe Munford, Arthur Sammons and James Spencer all achieved a magnificent 200m – that’s 8 lengths of the main pool!

 

Lesley Cox-Smith, Chair of LBSC, was delighted to see the progress of these youngsters and said ‘These are the future of this swimming club and the future county and regional swimmers. It’s great to see so many getting their new distance badges this year.”

Junior of the Year
This is based on the points achieved in the club championships for 12 years and under. Awarded to top boy and girl

Senior of the Year
As above but 13 and over

Award for Technical Excellence
For swimmers up to and including 10 years of age. To encourage technical excellence in young swimmers. Awarded to up to two boys and girls with the best technique across all three strokes. Swimmers are judged by the junior league coaches (minimum of three)

Most Improved Young Swimmer
Awarded to the boy and girl in the junior age group (up to and including 12 years of age as at 31st December) by the junior league coaches (min of 3). Each teacher will receive a nominations form during November. They will nominate swimmers they teach based on the following points;
1. Improvement in all four strokes.
2.Recorded improvements in PB times, When using the % improvement in times, each swimmer should have his total % improvement divided by the number of events they have times for , with a minimum set of 8 events (from all strokes 25m, 50m, 100m +100IM. Bonus points achieved in SPILLS also to be used.
3. Have a good attitude
4. Are committed
Nomination forms to go to committee award meeting in Dec and committee to make final decision

Club award
For competitive swimmers of 14 yrs +, a swimmer at any level. Given for the greatest contribution to the success of the swimming club. Incentive for 14+ to take a broader involvement in the club and to recognise that contribution.
Contributions could be in the way of
1.Willingness to swim Swimmers must have entered club championships, spills and participate when selected in club galas
2.Participation in Open meets
3.Helping in the organisation of open meets
4.Teaching: Gaining teaching qualifications, helping with learn to swim, qualifying as junior timekeepers or judges,
5.Help with social events
6.Any support for the club encourage and support the younger swimmers
Nominations should be made to chair of committee from coaching staff or committee members. Committee members to have final vote at the December award meeting

Swimmer of the year
Swimmer of the year will be given to the boy and girl who have achieved competitive excellence over the whole year based on:-
1. To be awarded to one boy and one girl swimmer

2.In the year of competition, the swimmer gaining the highest number of
a. National qualifying times
b. Zonal qualifying times
b. Regional qualifying times
c. County qualifying times

3. measurement of performance using the ASA graded tables, across all four strokes.
