On Saturday evening Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club ran a novice gala to provide younger and less experienced swimmers with the opportunity to compete against other swimming clubs. The gala took place at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre and was against Thame, Letchworth and Linslade Crusaders.
There were 41 events in the gala and LBSC swimmers won 17. Those winning individual events were: Alfie Lay, Gracie Trotter (2), Elise Crick, Zoe Bisby, Fionn Bell, Connor O’Gorman, Tory Van Der Hoven, Alicia Anderhub (2), Connor Ferguson, Kieran Hawkes, Jake Bulmer and Frazer Hughes.
The LBSC relay teams won 3 events. Swimmers in those teams were: Rachel Smith, Georgina Hawkes, Tory Van Der Hoven and Sophie Page in the girls open freestyle relay, Maddie Van Der Hoven, Mathilde Sammon, Alicia Anderhub and Tilly Sharman in the girls 11 and under freestyle relay and the team of Bethany Twitchell, Connor Ferguson, Elise Crick, George Carter, Sophie Page, Kieran Hawkes, Rachel Smith and Joe McGarry had a magnificent 9 second win in the final ‘Squadron Relay’ event.
LBSC’s Junior Coach Graeme Bell was delighted with the result saying ‘We had so many youngsters and less experienced swimmers in this gala and they all tried so hard. Great result!’
LBSC swimmers achieved twenty five great new personal best times (PB’s) and these were by: Jake Bulmer (2), Chloe Harding, Alphie Lay, Gracie Trotter, Adam Sandiford, Elise Crick (2), Louis Forbes Wright, Zoe Bisby (2), Fionn Bell, Connor O’Gorman, Tory Van Der Hoven, Joe McGarry, Alicia Anderhub (2), Connor Ferguson (2), Kieran Hawkes, Ashleigh Fisher, Ben Grice, Holly Reilly, Alfie Lay and Ross Gregory.
